A girl and her dog

How it all began...... To REALLY start from the beginning I would have to take you way, way back to when I was a kid. Growing up I never had that dream of getting married, having 2.5 kids and driving a mini van. My dream was all about having a big family with 4 legs and a tail. I wanted to rescue animals and this is where my story began.... Our crazy family So in February of this year I moved in with my partner. I knew that whoever I ended up with had to have the same dreams as me.... Luckily he is crazy too. When I moved in with him he already had 2 pet rabbits and I had brought my cat Albert (we will just ignore the fact that he is allergic to cats) that brought our family up to 5! However, anybody who loves animals knows that a house just isn't a home without a dog. So we began looking for a rescue dog. The world of rescue dogs is a minefield. There are so many fantastic charities out there....how do you decide on one? Well I turned out fate had a part to play in th...

The Long Wait.... So we had picked our dog! Due to her being a rescue there was very little known about her. All we knew was that she was roughly 2 years old, was nervous but friendly and had been found in an abandoned house with her four puppies. I had to have her! Next up was the Home Check. The Home Check  A home check is really self- explanatory.... They do a check of your house to make sure that the house is suitable for a dog. Simple right? Then why was I so nervous!! What happens if the garden wasn't big enough, the fence not tall enough. The day of the home check arrives! Due to high demand our home check was carried out via Facetime. So me and my boyfriend are sitting on the couch watching the seconds go by on the clock. It was 2.59pm. One minute to go! I sat there nervous and sweating. What if I say something wrong or if they don't like my answers?.... Turns out I worried for nothing. The woman who carried out our home check was really  friendly an...

THE DAY BEFORE So we had got everything we could possibly need for a dog and then some. We had cleaned the house, put down the puppy pads and gave a pep talk to the cat. She was on her way. In the days leading up to this, me and my partner had discussed new names for her. You really don't realise how many people you don't like until you are trying to decide on a name. Many, many hours later we had settled on Jessie! Due to her coming from Romanian it takes several days of travel and there wasn't a set time for her arriving, however we were giving an estimate and just my luck, I would be working when she arrived. Well fate came back into play there and thankfully I was home when she arrived. After staring at my phone for hours watching the updates and seeing all the other dogs being dropped off, I got a message to say that she would be next! JESSIE ARRIVES The van pulled up (affectionately known as the Happy Bus) and she was brought out to us. She was sm...

MUST HAVES So in this section I am going to tell you all the things you will need for your new arrival. None of these products are sponsored. They are just what I found worked best for us! COLLAR The first one is pretty simple. A good sturdy collar made out of a comfortable material is going to make life better. Its important that a collar fits properly. Too lose and the dog can escape, too tight and it will be uncomfortable. HARNESS A harness is sometimes used with or instead of a collar. It's really up to personal choice, although depending on the breed a harness can either help or promote pulling, so make sure that a harness is right for your dog. Same rules apply as the collar, Make sure it is made of sturdy material and that the fit is right.  I.D TAG   In my opinion one of the most important things on this list. Whether you choose to use a harness or collar it is essential that you use an I.D tag. It is a legal requirement in the UK that all dogs...
